Ghana currently has so far received about 7million approved vaccines in the country with 820, 037 people fully vaccinated representing 2.6 per cent and 1, 369, 515 receiving their first dose representing 4.4 per cent as government hopes to Vaccinate 20million of the population by end of year.
The five different approved vaccines include Oxford, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson and Johnson, Moderna and BioNTech, Pfizer.
Earlier last week, Ghana added to its existing stock of vaccines another 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the German government.
The US government’s promise to donate 1.3 Pfizer vaccines to the government of Ghana two weeks ago when President Akufo-Addo was in the US has also landed.
According to the US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan, the US is leading the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerating global vaccine distribution.
Already the US has donated 2.5 million doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to Ghana to complement government effort of protecting its citizens against the coronavirus.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the government, a Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah thanked the US government, for the various ways that her country has supported Ghana throughout the pandemic.
She said this will help Ghana reach its vaccination target of 20 million adult citizens by the end of 2021.
Cumulatively, Ghana has 128,368 cases of the virus with 1,158 deaths
There are currently 2,696 active cases in the country.
