Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed his thoughts on the 10% tax that has been imposed on winnings of betting and lottery, stating that government should have rather increased the tax.

According to him, government’s action was appropriate because gambling endangers the future of young people.

Although he believes that gambling and lotteries are ruining young people, he insisted that he does not hold the youth responsible because successive governments have not provided them with opportunities.

“The 10% tax on betting lottery winnings is in the right order, and it should have been more. If you go America and you win the US lottery, for a billion, you will take home $600 million because it is free money and it is taxable. So 10%, they’ve been charitable to you,” he said.

“Betting is not anything good for your future, that is why it should be punitive to discourage the young men and women coming up to take their destinies into their own hands instead of spending time on gaming,” he told TV3.

He implored the youth of the country to rally support behind him to become president, as he will create jobs for them to get something meaningful doing.

“I don’t blame them now. I cannot say that youth do not want to work because they don’t have the jobs. No opportunities so I don’t blame them but with me, I will create opportunities. Employment is everything, and that what I believe in and stand for. So, I want the youth to give me the opportunity to be president, and you will see the number of jobs that I will create.”
