The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated an 11-member committee tasked with overseeing the reversal of the double-track system in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) to a single-track system.

The move forms part of the government’s broader education reforms aimed at enhancing quality, access, and efficiency in the secondary school system.

The committee, chaired by Prof. Peter Grant of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), includes key stakeholders from various institutions, including Prof. Godwin Awabil (UCC), Prof. Samuel A. Atintono (PRINCOF), Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi (GES), Dr. Munawaru Issahaque (GES), D. W. Agbenyo (WAEC), Rosemond Wilson (WAEC), Mr. Augustus Agyemfra (CODE), Mr. David Odjidja (CHASS), Addo Nicholas Nii Kpakpoe (COHBS), and Prince Charles Agyemang-Duah (GES Schools & Instructions Division).

The committee has been assigned to review the 2024/2025 academic calendar, realign the WASSCE calendar with other West African countries, and develop a roadmap for phasing out the double-track system.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving secondary education, stating that the transition to a single-track system will reduce overcrowding, improve teaching and learning conditions, and enhance the overall quality of education.

The committee is expected to deliver its recommendations promptly, paving the way for a smooth and effective transition.
