Police have confirmed that thirteen people, including seven men, five women, and a child, tragically lost their lives in a fatal bus accident early this morning, Monday, October 14, 2024.

The accident occurred when a VIP bus travelling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region veered off the road and plunged into a ditch near Kwapia, close to Obuasi.

According to reports, all but one of the passengers died on the spot. The bus driver, identified as Osei Adu, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries but unfortunately passed away shortly after arriving for treatment.

The devastating accident has left the local community in shock, with grieving families mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones.

Eyewitnesses say the bus, registered as ER 2445-11, was overloaded at the time of the crash. The vehicle had reportedly taken on extra passengers from a broken-down bus along the route. A heated argument among passengers over the overcrowded condition of the bus may have distracted the driver, contributing to the fatal incident.

Those injured in the crash are currently receiving medical care, while the police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the morgue as authorities continue to gather more details and offer support to the families affected by the tragedy.
