Sixteen (16) NDC individuals have so far picked nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primary for the Tamale Central Constituency by-election slated for September 30, by the Electoral Commission.
The list of aspirants is made up of 14 men and two women, reflecting what party officials have described as a “keenly contested race.”
Among those who have expressed interest are prominent political and academic figures. They include Professor Alidu Seidu, a former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana; Hanan Gundaado, former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale; Halid Abdul-Rauf, a former Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC; and Seidu Fitter, a Principal Research Assistant at the University for Development Studies (UDS).
The female aspirants are Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the current Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC, and Hajia Alimatu Issahaku, both of whom are seeking to make history as the first women to represent the constituency.
The nominations, which opened on August 22, 2025, will close on August 24, 2025.
