Residents of Traa, a quiet farming community in the Techiman Metropolis of the Bono East Region, were left reeling in shock and sorrow after a violent robbery attack on Friday night claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl.

The incident occurred during a power outage on April 4, 2025, when an armed gang stormed the community under the cover of darkness.

The robbers reportedly broke into several homes, stealing cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.

Tragically, the body of Lawrencia Yaa Afra, a Form Two student of Guakro Effah Senior High School in Offuman, was found lifeless in her room the next morning, lying in a pool of blood. Her family believes she was attacked during the robbery.

Lawrencia’s mother, Madam Diana Boateng, was inconsolable as she spoke to Link News about the devastating loss of her daughter.

“She was full of life, preparing to return to school after the Easter break. I never imagined this would happen to my child,” she wept.

The Techiman District Police Patrol Team arrived at the scene and conveyed the young girl’s body to the morgue at Holy Family Teaching Hospital, where it will undergo autopsy as part of ongoing investigations.

While the police confirmed the attack, they declined to comment further on the case. However, they assured the public that investigations have begun to track down the perpetrators.

Community leaders, including the Queen Mother of Traa, Nana Adwoa Amankwaah, and the Mmrateɛhene, Nana Ɛkoɔba Gyasi, have called on the Ghana Police Service to increase patrols and provide better protection for residents.

They also revealed that the traditional council will consult the village’s revered deity, Boɔtwerewa, to spiritually uncover those behind what they described as an “unprecedented tragedy.”

Several affected residents have shared stories of their stolen belongings and the trauma the incident has left behind.
