The Ministry of Information has announced that Ghana’s Embassy in Tripoli in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration has repatriated about 165 Ghanaians from Libya to Ghana on February 8, 2024.
The 165 Ghanaians voluntarily returned from Libya via charter flight.
In a statement dated February 8, the Ministry indicated that the repatriated Ghanaians are scheduled to arrive at the Kotoka International Airport at 1500 hours GMT.
Reports indicate that Ghana’s Embassy in Tripoli and the International Organisation for Migration repatriated 169 Ghanaians from Tripoli to Accra under the Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) program in October 2023.
However, a third batch of 134 Ghanaian nationals was voluntarily repatriated from Misrata to Ghana on October 10, 2023, under the same program.
Priority was given to individuals in detention centres, individuals requiring medical assistance, families with children, stranded individuals, and destitute in need of assistance to return to Ghana.
