The Ministry of Health has disclosed that it has made significant progress in the process of clearing the remaining 182 containers at the port containing the anti-HIV, TB and malaria medicine by Friday, April 12, 2024.
This comes after news portals have it that Ghana faces a potential health crisis after the Global Fund suspended shipments of essential medical supplies due to delays in clearing previous donations stuck at Tema Port.
In a statement issued by the Public relations unit, the ministry reiterated that the entity received 435 containers of medicine from Global Fund and 253 have been successfully cleared from the Tema Port.
“As part of ongoing support by the Global Fund (GF) to the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in the period between August 2023 and February 24 received 435 containers at the Tema Port, containing anti-HIV, TB and malaria medicines and mosquito nets for distribution across the country. Out of the 435 containers, MOH successfully and expeditiously cleared 253 from the port through the support of the Government, with 182 containers remaining”, a portion of the release stated.
The ministry further reassured stakeholders and the general public that the challenges associated with the clearing of MOH medicines and other commodities from the Tema Port and other points of entry have been conclusively and completely resolved by the government.
