An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo, has sentenced a 19-year-old unemployed youth, Rashid Aziz, to 24 months’ imprisonment after he admitted to charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry, and stealing.
His co-accused, 20-year-old Nelson Godwin Ezel, who is also unemployed, pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into police custody pending further proceedings.
The duo was charged following a burglary that occurred on May 15, 2025, at Madina, a suburb of Accra.
Presenting the case, Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer told the court that the two young men allegedly conspired to break into the residence of one Fati Ahmed in the early hours of the morning.
The prosecution stated that the accused persons unlawfully entered the complainant’s room and stole an iPhone 11 Pro Max valued at GH¢5,500, a Samsung tablet worth GH¢1,200, assorted jewellery—including a necklace, bracelets, and earrings—worth GH¢3,000, and GH¢3,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen items amounted to GH¢12,700.
Rashid Aziz, upon his arraignment, pleaded guilty without conditions and was promptly convicted and handed a custodial sentence of two years.
The sentence is to be served at a correctional facility in the Greater Accra Region.
Nelson Godwin Ezel, who denied involvement in the crime, was remanded into custody. The court has set June 11, 2025, for the continuation of his trial.
