The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, 21st June 2021, has promised the people of Bawku a guinea fowl processing factory under government’s 1-District-1-Factory initiative.
“In the same way under the 1-District-1-Factory policy, very soon we are going to establish a guinea fowl processing factory here in Bawku. I am so happy to hear the commitment you have made to stop the smuggling of fertilizer from the area. It is a very important commitment, and I applaud you very much for it,” he added.
They are also considered among the most useful farm birds due to their many benefits and duties on any farm that are vital, more economic, and time-saving to farmers all alike.
The northern region in Ghana is considered the largest among ten other regions, as it covers an area of approximately 70,000 square kilometers or 30% of Ghana’s area.
In Ghana, the past few years have seen an increase in support for guinea fowl production through developmental projects such as Smallholder Agricultural Development Project (SADEP), Smallholder Rehabilitation Development Programme (SRDP) and part two of the WAAPP project.
Together these initiatives have resulted in a growth in capacity and financing. One outcome has been the “introduction of 1,000 capacity incubators and technical support” to farmers, which, according to Augustine Danquah, the monitoring and evaluation specialist for WAAPP, resulted in “farm expansion through higher bird population, and increased incomes and livelihoods” for Ghanaian guinea fowl producers.
