After a slow start to the game, France managed to take all three points against Australia in their first opening World Cup game.
Australia looked the more exciting side in the early parts of the game, as they took the lead through Craig Goodwin in the 9th minute.
France gradually grew into the game and got the equalizer after Rabiot headed home a cross from Theo Hernández.
Just before the half time, Olivier Giroud, scoring his first World Cup goal for France, gave the defending champions the lead.
Didier Deschamps’s side were comfortable in the second half as Kylian Mbappé increased the tally, with Olivier Giroud getting on the scoresheet again, giving him a brace.
France become the first reigning World Cup champions to win their opening game since 2006.
France will face Denmark on Saturday, while Australia will meet Tunisia.
