Accra Hearts of Oak tasted their first defeat to Real Tamale United in the 2023/2024 opening league match at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Friday, September 15, 2023.
RTU went into the game having won three and drawn one out of their four games against the Phobians since their return to the Premier League since 2021/2022 season.
Despite both sides getting off to strong starts, they wasted opportunities in the last third, as they failed to take advantage of them.
The home side’s biggest chance came on the 31st minute of the first half, as Alhassan Mankuyeli who was left with an empty goal post, placed the ball in the side net.
RTU continued to push for a lead, but could not take their chances, ending the first half in goalless draw.
After the break, the away side showed a much improved performance, creating chances in the early part of the second half but could not find the back of the net.
However, the Tamale side punished the Phobians after they could not defend a last minute corner taken by RTU, with Afriyie Owusu heading home the ball.
On Saturday, Kumasi Asante Kotoko were held to a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi against newly promoted side Hearts of Lions.
The Porcupine Warriors had a poor start, showing lack of resilience in attack.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Lions scored a superb goal on on the 65th minute, but was flagged offside.
The away side, kept threatening Kotoko to find the back of the net but could not, finishing the game in goalless.
Medeama SC and Dreams FC, will play on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 as a result of their CAF Champions League And Confederations Cup games palyed over the weekend.
