Ghana made significant progress towards earning a spot at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating Angola in the first leg tie at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Antoine Semenyo scored in stoppage time to give the Black Stars a victory and a seven-point lead in group E.
The Black Stars players celebrated with the supporters after the end of the game in a charged Baba Yara Stadium.
First half was a very disappointing one for the home crowd, as Chris Hughton’s side were sloppy and did not do much going forward.
However, the Stars showed a better performance in the second half, which led to the only goal for Ghana.
Substitute Antoine Semenyo blasted a shot into the goalpost after a clumsy challenge in the Angolan’s 18-yard box, following Mohammed Kudus’s free-kick, which was first saved by goalkeeper Neblu.
The results means Ghana extends their lead in the group E table, with seven points after three games, and will now travel to Angola for the second tie on Monday, March 27, 2023.
