The 13th African Games, which is supposed to be held in 2023 in Ghana has been postponed and is expected to take place in 2024.
The decision was announced at a press conference on Tuesday, February 21, 2022, by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) at the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to the Youth and Sports Ministry, Ghana was faced with a challenge to host the competition due to a conflict that existed between the African Union (AU), Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC)/.
However, that impasse has been resolved after an agreement was facilitated by the president of Ghana Akufo-Addo last week in Addis Ababa.
Also, Ghana’s preparation for the Games is behind time, as the Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana stadium which will serve as the event’s venue, are still under construction.
The event was scheduled to start on August 4, and end on February 19, 2023, but specific dates for the rescheduled event was not announced.
