The Election Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has disqualified former Vice President of the GFA, George Afriyie, from contesting in this year’s GFA presidential seat.
This according to the committee is a result of his inability to meet the requirements set out in order to be legible.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Afriyie, signed by the chairman of the GFA elections committee, Esq. Joseph Bernard Ashalley, indicated that the vetting process of the former Vice President was not successful, as he failed to provide the required number of GFA members to support his candidature and also failed to meet the requirements to contest the election for the position of GFA President due to having the support of four GFA members after the Jeffrey Asare’s endorsement rendered invalid.
Although he has until September 11, 2023, to appeal the ruling, but it is unknown if he would do so.
The elections, which were supposed to take place on September 27, have been postponed due to an injunction filed by King Faisal in August.
