Head coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko has attributed Ghana’s shock defeat to host nation Morocco in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to stress.
Ghana was thrashed 5-1 on Tuesday evening, as they took on Morocco in their second group A fixture.
Meanwhile reacting to what caused his team to perform that poorly in his post match press conference, said his team did not have enough time to prepare for the game.
“We gave them a lot of respect, and that is not an excuse but we had a day rest and they had two. You could see from the game of Guinea against Congo, how the scoreline was because of Congo resting for only a day.”
He did, however, express optimism that Ghana had a chance to advance to the next level of the competition.
“We still have a chance in the tournament, we still have a last game so we are going to prepare for that.”
The Black Meteors will play their last match in the group stage against Guinea on July 30, 2023, and if they will stand any chance of qualifying, will have to beat Guinea.
Ghana and Guinea are all on three points each, but Guinea is placed second due to goal difference.
