Head coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko has expressed disappointment in Ghana’s early exit from the ongoing 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Black Meteors on Friday night failed to seal qualification, as they drew against Guinea in their last group A match.
Ghana won only one match against Congo, lost to Morocco and drew against Guinea to get only four points, which was not enough to get them through to the semi-final.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, coach Ibrahim Tanko said the motive of his team was to do very well in the competition, but their early exit is a disappointment to them.
“We disappointed Ghanaians and ourselves, because we prepared very well, thinking that we were going to go far in the tournament, but this is what happened, and we give thanks to God so we have to analyze the whole tournament and see what we could do better next time, It is very painful,” he said.
He added that Ghana will have to do more in terms of developing football from the youth level in order to compete with other nations.
“We were not the best in this tournament when it comes to quality, but we are working hard as a football country, and the FA is trying to change something, but we have to do more. When you look at the game against Egypt and even today, you could see that we have to catch up else it will be too late.”
