The Ministry of Youth and Sports has clarified media reports that players of the Black Meteors and the technical staff have not been paid their bonuses and salaries.

There has been speculations on social by some journalists that the technical team of the Black Meteors have not been settled ever since they assumed office.

Meanwhile, a statement released by the Ministry on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 strongly rejected such claims, and further indicated that it had settled all outstanding bonuses owed the technical members except one that will be paid soon.

“The attention of the Youth and Sports Ministry has been drawn to claims on social media that coaches of the Black Meteors have never been paid any money since they were appointed.

“We wish to categorically state that these claims are false. The technical members of the team have been paid all their outstanding bonuses, except their bonus for defeating Algeria, which the Ministry is working to get them paid,” the statement noted.

The Ministry pledged government’s support to the team, and called for support from Ghanaians.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ ultimate objective is to facilitate the qualification of the Black Meteors to Ghana’s first Olympics in 20 years, hence government’s continuous support and investment in the team, which includes the ongoing pre-tournament training camp in Egypt.

We wish to urge all to focus on supporting the team to achieve the ultimate objective of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in France.”
