The expectations of persons living with disabilities who were laid off as a result of the cancellation of road tolls in 2021 were not met during the presentation of the 2024 budget.
Prior to the presentation of the 2024 budget, people living with disabilities urged the government to reintroduce road tolls to help get their jobs back and also generate more revenue for the state.
The group bemoaned that, since the suspension of the road tolls some two years ago, their colleagues who are not disabled have been reassigned to different sectors to work as promised, while some still remain unemployed.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ofori-Atta, during the presentation of the 2023 budget in November 2022, said the government will reintroduce the collection of road tolls in 2023.
This decision was applauded by the minority, but the reintroduction has yet to take effect.
But this expectation was not met during the presentation of the 2024 budget, as the finance minister failed to mention anything concerning the reintroduction of the road tolls.
However, on road infrastructure, Mr. Ofori-Atta said the construction of the flyover on the Accra-Tema Motorway from the Flowerpot roundabout is 60 percent complete, while Phase 2 of the Tema Motorway Roundabout, including the construction of the 3rd tier of the interchange, is 56 percent complete.
