Ghanaians are heading to the polls today in all 276 constituencies to elect a president and Members of Parliament in the much-anticipated 2024 general elections.

With voting open at 7:00 a.m. and scheduled to close at 5:00 p.m., a total of 18,807,854 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots across 40,975 polling stations nationwide.

A Republic Press team toured constituencies in the Greater Accra Region to assess the voting process in the early hours of Election Day.

At the Healing Fire Church-Awoyoo polling station in the Anyaa-Sowutuom constituency, officials began setting up at 7:20 a.m., slightly behind the official start time. Meanwhile, voting commenced smoothly at the Full Gospel Church polling station nearby.

At the Anyaa Chief Palace and Christian Valley School polling stations, long queues formed early, with voters expressing hope for a quick and efficient process.

However, challenges were noted at a polling station in Lapaz within the Okaikoi Central constituency, where Electoral Commission (EC) officials struggled to verify the details of some voters already in line.

In the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, contrasting scenarios were observed. Voting at Paradise International School progressed efficiently, while some confusion arose at a polling station near Dome-Crossing due to the limited space.

Security personnel stepped in to manage the situation, ensuring an orderly process as voters were allowed into the station one at a time.

The Electoral Commission is coordinating with polling party agents, security personnel, the media, and election observers to maintain a transparent and fair voting exercise.

The 2024 elections are viewed as pivotal, with the results poised to shape Ghana’s political and economic trajectory.

Both local and international observers are closely monitoring the process, underscoring its significance in the nation’s democratic journey.
