President of Citizen Eye Ghana, Mr. Alex Kwaku Tetteh, has urged the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to settle the long-standing Bawku disputes if he wants to win in the northern part of the country during the 2024 elections.
Mr. Tetteh revealed that the misunderstandings between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis are a result of land ownership and independence in Northern Ghana which existed even before 1980.
In an interview on CITEG AGRIC TV on Facebook, Mr. Tetteh noted that “The Mamprusis insist on referring to the area made up of six administrative districts (Bawku Municipal, Zebilla, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu and Tempane) as “Bawku Traditional Area” while Kusasis consistently refer to the area as “Kusaug Traditional Area”.
According to him, the Vice President and the flagbearer of the NPP should convince Nayiri, the king of the Moosi Moronaba, to release the land to the Kusasi, whom he sees as the rightful owners.
“It was during Dr. Bawumia’s reign as Vice President that the North East region was created so becoming a President, and coming from the North, Dr. Bawumia should be able to call the Nayiri out and reason with him to settle the long-standing dispute in order to win more votes in the North”, Mr. Alex Tetteh stressed.
He also mentioned that Dr. Bawumia who is from the Mamprusi side and known to be a peaceful man should take advantage of settling the dispute between his people and the Kusasis.
Speaking on Dr. Bawumia’s vision, Mr. Tetteh noted that, he is the right person to lead the country from the mess President Akufo-Addo has created.
Additionally, he indicated that Vice President Dr. Bawumia was appointed and not voted for so he does not have the sole responsibility to make final decisions hence he should not be blamed for the mess in the country is facing.
