Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen, has described the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections as its worst since the country returned to democratic rule in 1992.
Speaking on Boss FM, Lawyer Obiri Boahen urged party members to refrain from blaming regional chairpersons for the party’s defeat. Instead, he attributed the poor performance to a general lack of responsiveness to advice within the party.
“Sometimes, as a party, we fail to listen to good counsel, and it comes back to hurt us,” he remarked during the interview.
In a separate comment on President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration, Lawyer Obiri Boahen commended the President for his diplomatic acumen, highlighting the impressive turnout of African leaders at the event.
He described this as a significant milestone for Ghana in international diplomacy.
The NPP’s 2024 electoral loss has sparked intense debate within party circles, with various members analyzing the factors that contributed to the unexpected outcome.
Lawyer Obiri Boahen’s reflections add to the growing calls for introspection and reform as the party regroups for future contests.
