The annual National Chocolate Week celebration has officially been launched in Accra with an appeal to Ghanaians to develop a passion for locally manufactured golden tree chocolates.
The official launch of the long-awaited event was attended by several officials from the cocoa industry.
This year’s celebration, which will kick start on the 10th of February, will be under the theme, “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana.”
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Board, Akwasi Agyemang, assured that this year’s celebration would be used to showcase the wonderful products from Cocoa.
According to Mr. Agyemnag, the cocoa industry, plays a significant role with regards to the total development of the country.
The 2024 National Chocolate Week celebration, he further noted, would be used to educate the general public on the need to continue to purchase products made from cocoa.
“This year’s celebration as fully planned would be used to appreciate the excellent works of Cocoa farmers across the length and breadth of the country,” he disclosed.
For his part, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the COCOBOD, Mr. Ray Ankrah, said the celebration is annually done to highlight the consumption of locally cocoa-manufactured products.
He therefore underscored the need for Ghanaians to embrace locally made chocolates made from Ghana’s cocoa to help generate revenue for developmental projects across the country.
Mr. Ankrah was also delighted to announce that the consumption rate of chocolate has increased from 21% to 40% due to hard work by the management of COCOBOD over the years.
He seized the opportunity and advised Ghanaians to ignore all false issues concerning the consumption of chocolates in the country.
