Ghana’s Black Queens have taken a giant step to the next round of the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers after recording a 3-0 victory against Benin in Cotonou.
Doris Boaduwaa put the Queens ahead from the penalty spot in the 45th minute after a penalty was awarded for a foul on Gifty Assifuah in the box.
The Queens proved dominated the first half, mounting enormous pressure on the Benin national team, with the home side failing to hold the Black Queens.
Nora Hauptle’s side looked determined to double their lead in the second half and did so through substitute Gifty Assifuah who capitalized on a defensive error to give the Black Queens the second goal in Cotonou in the 73rd minute.
Gifty Assifuah sealed the victory 5 minutes after doubling the Queen’s lead with another goal in the 78th minute, giving the Black Queens the needed cushion heading into the second leg of the qualifiers.
The Black Queens will take on Benin in the second leg on Tuesday, 31st October at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Queens will be hoping to get a positive result in Accra to progress to the third round of the qualifiers which will be against the Copper Queens of Zambia.
The latest results against Benin means the Queens have 8 consecutive wins from 8 games for Head Coach Nora Häuptle.
