As government plans on reducing the level of unemployment in the country through agriculture, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted that 2024 will see a deliberate approach by authorities to improve the Agricultural sector in the country.
Mr. Ofori-Atta noted that the sector has seen the highest amount of money so far as revealed in the 2024 budget and this is because of the country’s plans to be food secured in the coming years.
The Finance Minster made these remarks when he toured the Agrifest fair at the ministries enclave in Accra on Tuesday November 28, 2023.
He also mentioned that, over the years government spends some $2 billion importing foods and this according to the minster can be cut out with the plans and innovations the Agric sector led by Dr. Bryan Acheampong is putting in place.
“With GHC 1 Billion been allocated to Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) to complement
the PFJ II, there is certainly a deliberate effort to reduce importation and make the sector more attractive to for a lot more people to venture”, Ken Ofori-Atta stressed.
Speaking on food inflation, the Minister noted that it affects the whole country and with it being about 44% hence with the efforts the ministry is putting in the place, the country is on track to have a stable economy.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong therefore commended the finance minister for the agreement signed with the African Development Bank on a project intended to provide the needed support to farmers in the Northern region during the planting season
