2025/2026 academic calendar for basic schools approved

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has approved new 2025/2026 academic calendar for basic schools – kindergarten, primary, and Junior High Schools.

 

The Service announced the new academic calendar to all basic school heads, teachers, learners and stakeholders.

 

Details of the calendar are as follows:

 

FIRST TERM (15 WEEKS)

Mid-Term Break October 31 – November 3, 2025 (2 days)

Closing December 18, 2025

Vacation December 19, 2025 – January 7, 2026

SECOND TERM (12 WEEKS)

 

Reopening January 8, 2026

Closing April 1, 2026

Vacation April 2, 2026 – April 20, 2026

THIRD TERM (13 WEEKS)

 

Reopening April 21, 2026

Closing July 23, 2026

Vacation July 24, 2026

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 11, 2026. GES reminded all stakeholders that public holidays within the academic year are to be observed accordingly.

 

 

A two-day mid-term break will be observed in each term for all basic schools.

 

“All heads of schools, teachers, parents, and guardians are urged to take note of these dates and ensure adequate preparation for a smooth and effective academic year,” Head of Public Relations at the GES, Daniel Fenyi said in a statement issued on July 12.

 

Management also wishes to thank all school heads, teachers, parents, students and all stakeholders for the dedication and hard work in ensuring a successful 2024/2025 academic year which ends on Thursday, 24th July, 2025.
