2025 AFCONQ: Angola stun Black Stars in Kumasi

The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola in their first game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Substitute Jaoa Felicio Milson scored the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute after Abdul Mumin failed to clear a cross.

Both teams struggled to get a grip of the game due to the poor condition of the pitch.

Coach Otto Addo’s men who were considered favorites on the day dominated both halves of the game but lacked the cutting edge to put the ball in the opponent’s net.

Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus both saw their efforts blocked, while Antoine Semenyo, Fatawu Issahaku and captain Thomas Partey failed to make a breakthrough.

Angola, despite not being a dominant possession force, successfully managed more goal attempts and managed to keep the Black Stars quiet throughout the game before demonstrating their persistence in stoppage time to get the all important three points.

Ghana would have to put the defeat behind them and get their campaign running when the travel to Morocco to face Niger in their second group game on Monday September 9.
