The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that the number of suspects arrested in connection with the deadly attack on a military-escorted civilian convoy in Binduri, Upper East Region, has increased to 21.
This comes after an earlier military update had reported 11 arrests following the incident.
The attack happened on Monday, April 27, 2026, when armed men opened heavy gunfire on a convoy transporting about 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga under military protection.
The assault claimed the lives of three civilians, while one other person sustained injuries.
In an interview, the Acting Director General of Public Relations for GAF, Captain (Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, disclosed that the suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations.
She noted that security operations are still ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to track down more individuals connected to the attack, stressing that the situation remains fluid.
Captain Arhin further confirmed that seven of the attackers were killed during a gun battle with military personnel as soldiers responded to the ambush.
She also issued a strong warning against attacks on security officers carrying out official assignments.
“Please do not attack the military especially when they are on official duty. When you do that, it is needless lives that will be lost because we need to protect ourselves and protect whatever assignment we have been given,” she said.
The Ghana Armed Forces added that it is working closely with other security agencies to restore calm in the area and prevent further violence.
