The Volta Regional Police Command has arrested 26 individuals suspected of being involved in drug-related offenses during a targeted intelligence-led operation at the Aflao border enclave.
According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit in the Volta Region, the operation was carried out on Saturday, May 24, 2025, as part of sustained efforts to clamp down on illegal drug trade and related criminal activity in the area.
The suspects, believed to be involved in the sale and distribution of narcotic substances, were apprehended at multiple locations across the Aflao border zone.
The police indicated that the swoop formed part of a broader strategy to disrupt organized drug networks operating along Ghana’s eastern frontier.
DSP Danku stated that a significant quantity of suspected narcotics and related paraphernalia were seized during the operation.
Among the items retrieved were 20 wraps of dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp, 12 sachets of Tramadol tablets, and a rubber bucket containing more quantities of what is also believed to be Indian hemp.
Authorities also found 26 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp hidden in a fertilizer sack, alongside cash sums of GH₵30,558.00 and 17,500 CFA francs.
Additional exhibits included six drug-laced toffees and eight creams suspected to be infused with narcotic substances, suggesting an evolving tactic in the packaging and sale of illicit drugs.
The police have since placed all 26 suspects in custody.
DSP Danku confirmed that they will be processed and arraigned before court to face prosecution.
He emphasized that the Volta Regional Police Command remains committed to ridding border communities and other hotspots of drug peddling and associated crimes.
He also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information.
“The fight against the drug menace is a shared responsibility, and we encourage community members to report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods,” DSP Danku noted.
Police say similar operations are expected in the coming weeks as part of a regional security strategy.
