470 Ghana Prisons Service officers pass out

The Ghana Prisons Service on Friday, 29th April, 2022 successfully held a Passing Out Ceremony for 470 recruit officers.

The recruits of course 118 underwent 5 months para military training including classroom tuition, physical training and drill. Prior to their final part of the training at the training school, the 470 course participants were taken through a re-orientation of their mindsets towards the proper acquisition of the core content of the training and exposing them practically to the basic fundamentals of prison and prisoner management at the various prison facilities.

The reviewing officer, Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Adelaide Annor Kumi, who represented the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ambose Dery, commended the Director-General of Prisons, Commandant and Staff of the Prison Officers Training school for their efforts in running an all-year training programmes since last year.

She further expressed her gratitude to officers of the Ghana Prisons Service for staying vigilant and dedicated in performing their mandate of ensuring effective safe custody, reformation and reintegration of prison inmates to promote public safety.

She acknowledged all recruit officers who distinguished themselves throughout the training period and cautioned all course participants to stay professional at all times irrespective of the challenges they face in discharging their duties. The Chief Director, on behalf of the Minister for the Interior, promoted all the recruit officers to the rank of second class officers.

The award winners include FRO 46, Antwi Godlove Animah, adjudged the Over All Best Recruit Officer; FRO 156, Maame Ama Aggrey- Fynn-Best in Academics, RO 35, Peter Tetteh-Best in Drill, RO1 Gabriel Owusu Commandant’s Award and FRO 16, Phube Opoku-Best in Physical Training.

The rest were Subject Award Winners:

RO.140 Yabelang Kelvin – Penal law

RO.179, Dwebeng Philip – Interpersonal Skills

RO 171.Emmanuel Opata -First Aid

RO.101.Abdulai Yakubu – Reception Duties

FRO 156. Maame Ama Aggrey-Fynn – Computation and Prison Duties.

Present at the ceremony were the Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir; the Director of Prisons in charge of Welfare and Human Resource Development, Mr Francis Omane Addo, Director of Prisons responsible for Health, Administration and Finance, Mr. Samuel Adjei Attah; Director of Prisons in charge of Operations Mr. Samuel Akolbire and Director of Prisons in charge of Agriculture, Mr. Hanson Adu Awuku.

Others were the Regional Commander and Commandant of the Prison officers’ Training school (P.O.T.S), Mrs. Joana Fofo Tackie- Otoo, Deputy Commandant ADP Abuaku Ameyaw, the General Staff Officer, ADP Issahaku Yahaya, Officer in charge of the Senior Correctional Centre, ADP Millicent Owusu.
