5 dead, 7 others injured in accident on Accra-Kumasi Highway

Five persons have been confirmed dead in an accident involving a sprinter bus and a truck at Nobewam – New Koforidua along the Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Ashanti Region.

Five persons have been confirmed dead in an accident involving a sprinter bus and a truck at Nobewam – New Koforidua along the Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Ashanti Region.

Seven other passengers also sustained various degrees of injuries in the incident which happened on Friday dawn and are receiving treatment at the Agogo Government Hospital.

The Assembly member for Nobewam also Ashanti Regional Chairman for CPP Hon Gallo Emmanuel in an interview said the driver of the sprinter bus was commuting from Kumasi to Accra.

But on reaching a section of the road between Nobewam and New Koforidua near Ejisu on the highway, he overtook a vehicle ahead of him without observing there was another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

Thus, in the process crashed into the truck Man Diesel trailer truck loaded with unspecified quantities of goods.

According to Hon Gallo, the five passengers on board of the sprinter died on the spot including the driver while the other seven passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for immediate attention.

He added that the bodies have since been deposited at the same hospital morgue pending autopsy.
