A 50-year-old man, Domey Emmanuel has been adjudged the overall best farmer in the Kwahu South 2022 Farmers' Day celebration.

A 50-year-old man, Domey Emmanuel has been adjudged the overall best farmer in the Kwahu South 2022 Farmers’ Day celebration.

This year’s Farmers’ Day celebration, under the theme “Accelerating Agricultural development through value addition” was conducted to commend Ghanaian farmers for their continuous support of the growth of the country.

The Overall best farmer, Mr Domey Emmanuel, a form 4 graduate is an Agribusiness farmer. He began farming some 15 years ago. He’s married to two wives and 7 children. He has 20 workers as a farmer. Yearly, he works with over 500 farm workers and he pays all of them. Mr Domey was able to farm on 55-acre land this year alone. His farms are spread across Kwahu, Ashanti and Accra areas.

He has 20 acres of maize farm in Ekye-Amanfrom, 21 acres of Onions in Nketepa, 4 acres of Watermelon in Nketepa, 4 acres of groundnuts in Nketepa, 3 acres of Okro, 3 acres of pepper. He has 40 cows, 20 sheep, 20 Goats, 15 grass cutters, 20 rabbits, 5 cats, and 70 local fowls. He also has a 40-horse power ad-board motor, 2 canoes, 50 bundles of fishing nets, 7 water pumping machines, 7 irrigation lines and 2 Hyundai KIA trucks.

He was awarded a motorbike, wheelbarrow, watering tank, Nacksack sprayer, 6 pieces of cutlasses, 3 sets of Wellington boots, a radio set and a certificate.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Republic FM’s Andy Frimpong Manso, Mr Dome commended the Assembly through their Agric officers for their efforts to ensure that farmers in the Municipality have the best supports to continue and produce food for the country.

Mr Domey used the opportunity and implored all manner of persons to engage in farming as it’s now a lucrative business to make more income.

He specifically urged the youth to desist from urban migration and engage in the farming business.

He further called on the MCE, Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr. to support Onion farmers in Nketepa and its environs to fix the deplorable nature of roads in that area to ease the movement of their farm products to sales point.

This year’s national farmers’ day celebration will be hosted at Jubilee Park in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on Friday, December 2, 2022.
