Intelligence-led operations by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Ghana have led to the arrest of 53 Nigerian nationals and the rescue of 44 others believed to be victims of cybercrime exploitation in coordinated raids across East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba.
The operations, conducted over the last 48 hours on 16th and 17th January 2026, followed actionable intelligence indicating that several suspected cybercrime centres were operating within these areas.
The intelligence revealed that young men were being exploited and coerced by alleged kingpins to engage in various cybercrime activities.
Acting on the CSA-led intelligence, a joint team comprising operatives from National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the National Police SWAT carried out simultaneous operations at the identified locations.
During the exercise, nine Nigerian nationals were arrested as primary suspects, while forty-four additional Nigerian nationals believed to be victims were rescued. The rescued individuals were found in their respective apartments operating laptop computers at the time of the raids.
Searches conducted at the various apartments resulted in the retrieval of fifty-two assorted mobile phones, sixty-two laptop computers, and two pump-action guns.
In all, fifty-three Nigerian nationals were arrested across the five locations, broken down as follows: East Legon Hills recorded five arrests, Afienya eleven, Kwabenya ten, Weija ten, and Tuba seventeen.
All arrested persons have since been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations.
Authorities have also cautioned foreign nationals invited into Ghana to independently verify claims made by their compatriots to avoid being lured into criminal activities.
Meanwhile, some individuals arrested in previous related operations have been profiled by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with INTERPOL and successfully handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme border. Others are currently facing criminal prosecution before the courts.
The CSA reaffirmed that protecting Ghana’s cyber image and international reputation remains non-negotiable, commending its team and partner law enforcement agencies for the successful operation.
