A55-year-old man, Benjamin Okyere, has been arrested by police for allegedly setting his girlfriend and her two children on fire at Tanoso in the Kwadaso Municipality of Ashanti region.

The incident occurred on October 5, 2024, when Okyere sprayed fuel on the room and set it ablaze while the family slept.

According to Assembly Member Hon. Aron Nandie, Okyere wanted the woman, Ante Aggie, to send her children away to ensure privacy in a single room they all share.

Aggie, a widow and owner of the room, refused, causing tension between the couple. Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng, Hon. Nandie revealed that Okyere’s request was unreasonable.

“He wanted the woman to sack her children from the single room they shared, but she refused. This led to a rift between them. The woman’s refusal to heed Okyere’s advice reportedly agitated him, and he threatened to “deal with her”.

“True to his words, Okyere allegedly set the room ablaze”. Fortunately, the woman and her children escaped with burns and are currently receiving medical attention. Hon. Nandie expressed shock and disappointment at the incident, condemning Okyere’s actions.

“It’s unacceptable for someone who claims to be a pastor to engage in such heinous acts.”

Okyere, who went into hiding, was arrested at Apatrapa and is currently assisting investigations at Abuakwa Police Station.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for justice to be served. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains vigilant, ensuring the safety and well-being of Aggie and her children.
