The Ayawaso East Constituency is warming up for a monitored-contesting by-election following the closure of nominations on Friday, January 23, 2026, by the National Democratic Congress, which saw six aspirants officially pick forms to contest in the polls scheduled for February 7, 2026.

Party officials say the nomination and filing exercise were successfully concluded without any incident, reflecting a high level of interest and internal democracy ahead of the crucial by-election.

The aspirants who picked nomination forms are:

Mohammed Ramne

Mohammed Abdul Salam

Yakubu Azindow

Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed

Najib Mohammed Sani

Amina Adam.

The leadership of the party has extended its best wishes to all six aspirants and encouraged them to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful, issue-driven, and respectful manner.

Aspirants are expected to return their completed nomination forms on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the Regional Office, where vetting and subsequent internal processes will follow.

The upcoming by-election is widely viewed as politically significant, with analysts predicting an intense contest due to the constituency’s strategic electoral value. Party stakeholders and grassroots supporters have expressed optimism that the selection process will produce a candidate capable of uniting the base and delivering victory at the polls.

Meanwhile, attention is also focused on the Supreme Court, which is expected to deliver its ruling on the Kpandai constituency rerun case on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The ruling is anticipated to bring clarity and finality to the electoral dispute surrounding the constituency and could have broader implications for Ghana’s electoral jurisprudence.

Political observers note that both developments—the Ayawaso East by-election preparations and the impending Supreme Court decision—underscore the dynamic nature of Ghana’s democratic process and the critical role of institutions in safeguarding electoral integrity.

As the political calendar intensifies, all eyes will remain on the Ayawaso East race and the apex court’s decision, both of which are expected to shape political discourse in the coming weeks
