The 66th Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) began on 30th September 2023 today at the International Conference Centre in Accra.

Over 500 lawmakers, parliamentary staff, and decision-makers from across the Commonwealth will attend the conference, which is one of the largest gatherings of Commonwealth Parliamentarians.

Several other conferences and meetings will take place during the conference, including the 39th CPA Small Branches Conference, meetings of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) and Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) networks, the 66th CPA General Assembly, meetings of the CPA Executive Committee, and the 57th Society of Clerks at the Table (SoCATT).

Jeff Hyland, Editor and Communications Manager at the CPA Secretariat, explained that the conference would provide an opportunity to meet parliamentary delegations from the Commonwealth countries as well as engage in plenary sessions and seminars on topics of Pan-Commonwealth interest.

According to him, there will also be in-country meetings by various delegations.

The CPA UK delegation has previously said that it will hold in-country talks related to the bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and Ghana.

The CPA organises its annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) to address global political issues and developments in the parliamentary system through conference workshops and sessions for leading parliamentarians from Commonwealth legislatures.

The CPA is an international network of nearly 180 Commonwealth Parliaments and Legislatures working together to strengthen the Commonwealth’s commitment to the highest standards of democratic governance.
