7,000 nurses placed on national payroll – Akandoh

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that 7,000 nurses have officially been placed on the national payroll, with efforts underway to migrate the remaining health workers.

He made the announcement during a surprise visit to the Bibiani Government Hospital in the Western North Region on Thursday.

Explaining the process, the minister noted that recruitment delays in 2024 created bottlenecks, but the President intervened to prevent health professionals from losing their jobs.

He disclosed that out of 15,000 clearances issued, 13,500 nurses were recruited, with 10,000 names already captured on the payroll. “Out of this number, 7,000 are receiving their monthly salaries, while the remaining 3,000 are being gradually migrated,” he said.

Mr. Akandoh further responded to concerns about unpaid doctors, stressing that the ministry was aware of the reports. “I would have to investigate before I can make a comment on that,” he remarked, assuring that the issue would be looked into promptly
