President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has commissioned 73 officer cadets from the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) Short Service Commission and Special Duty Intake 61.
The ceremony, held at the Ranger Baba Square in Teshie, Accra, marked the President’s final commissioning in his tenure. He commended the cadets for their resilience and discipline during their six-month training program, which began in June 2024.
The course, originally involving 76 cadets, saw 73 graduate due to three withdrawals for medical reasons. The commissioned officers include 35 for the Army, 15 for the Navy, and 23 for the Air Force. Their training combined theoretical studies with practical exercises in tactics, navigation, and leadership across diverse terrains.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the critical role of the new officers in addressing national security challenges, including terrorism and illegal mining. He urged them to uphold integrity, discipline, and patriotism in their service.
“Our sovereignty depends on leaders of courage and vision. You are now custodians of this noble tradition,” the President said, while highlighting his administration’s efforts to strengthen the armed forces with new equipment, Forward Operating Bases, and expanded personnel.
The event also recognized top-performing cadets:
- Chief of the Defence Staff Award: Junior Under Officer Yaro Mohammed Keylan.
