President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the 15-megawatt (MW) Kaleo Solar Power Project, marking the completion of the second phase of the Volta River Authority’s (VRA) solar initiative.
This latest addition, combined with the 13MW peak project inaugurated in August 2022, brings the total solar power capacity in the area to 28MW. Together, the two phases will provide electricity to over 75,000 households in the Upper West Region.
The plant adds 15MW to the national grid, improving power quality in the region while reducing Ghana’s carbon emissions by approximately 8,917 tonnes annually.
Additionally, the project supports research and education in solar energy for technical universities in northern Ghana.
The Kaleo Solar Power Project underscores Ghana’s commitment to sustainable energy and the transition to renewable sources for a cleaner, greener future.
