The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed an unsettling incident at the Temporary Booth Bayiri Polling Station in the Techiman South District.
The ballot issuer, Mr. Joseph Derry, was reported to have torn the head of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriot Party (NPP) while distributing 15 ballot papers to voters.
According to the Bono East Regional Directorate, the incident took place on the morning of December 7th, 2024, prompting immediate action. The Police have arrested Mr. Derry, and the Electoral Commission has expressed its full cooperation with the authorities as they investigate the matter.
In a statement, the Commission underscored its commitment to ensuring fair and transparent elections, warning all election officials that any breach of electoral laws will result in prosecution. “We will not shield anyone who violates the processes or misconducts themselves during the elections,” the statement read.
