Businessman Daniel Obikyere Akaffo has been arraigned before the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra for the alleged murder of Godfred Agbovie.
The accused is facing charges of causing Agbovie’s death through unlawful harm.
A forensic pathologist’s report confirmed that Agbovie died from shotgun wounds to the head and chest.
The case, which has been under investigation since 2016, took a significant turn after ballistic analysis linked a firearm recovered from Akaffo’s residence to the crime scene.
Presiding over the case, Justice Mary E.A Yanzuh remanded Akaffo into lawful custody after he pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
The businessman is expected to reappear before the court today, February 4, 2025.
Background of the Case
According to the prosecution, Agbovie went missing on November 29, 2016, after being lured to a meeting under the pretense of a business transaction involving pigs and gravel. His skeletal remains were discovered two months later in the Ameyaokope forest near Sege.
Investigations traced the phone records used to contact Agbovie to a SIM card linked to Akaffo.
Witnesses, including a taxi driver and an accomplice, testified that Akaffo was last seen with the deceased before he disappeared into the forest with a pump-action gun. The same firearm was later recovered from his residence.
With the prosecution building its case on forensic evidence and witness testimonies, today’s proceedings will determine the next course of action in this high-profile trial.
