The election of regional representatives to Ghana’s Council of State is in progress across the country, with voting taking place in various regional capitals.

In the Greater Accra Region, the electoral process is being conducted at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Hall, where 58 delegates are expected to cast their ballots to select a representative for the region. The Electoral Commission (EC), under the supervision of Greater Accra Regional Director Mrs. Gladys Pinkrah, is overseeing the exercise, which has so far been described as smooth and orderly.

Thirteen candidates are contesting for the position, including Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Summertime Kwabillna Ampong, Sampson Seyram Kwadzo Agbemabiese, Charles Yaw Horvey, Redeemer Worwui, Joseph Tetten Sottie, and Herbert Nii Aryee Annan. Other contenders are Musah Ziyad, Samuel Duah, Albert Borketey Naawu, Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Edmund Siaw Akugbey, and Obed Nyarko.

The Council of State, as established under Articles 89 to 92 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, serves as an advisory body to the President, providing guidance on governance and policy matters.

Meanwhile, in the Northern Region, the election has concluded, with former Minister and Member of Parliament Mohammed Mumuni emerging as the elected Council of State representative.

According to the Electoral Commission, similar elections are taking place across all regional capitals, with designated venues determined by the Commission in each region.

The results from the various regions are expected to be announced once the voting process is completed.
