Despite the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections, Akuapem North Member of Parliament, Sammi Awuku, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on all campaign promises to his constituents.

As part of his development agenda, Mr. Awuku has initiated a monthly trade support program aimed at assisting local farmers.

The initiative provides free transportation for farmers to convey their produce from villages to the Ofie Market Square at Amanokrom Durbar grounds, easing logistical challenges and promoting local commerce.

In addition to the transport support, the MP has partnered with rural banks to offer soft loans to farmers and market women, enabling them to expand their businesses. To ease the financial burden, he has pledged to personally cover 25 percent of the 30 percent interest on these loans, making credit more accessible to beneficiaries.

Speaking to journalists at the launch of the initiative, Mr. Awuku outlined further plans to establish a Teacher’s and Nurse’s Fund by mid-year. Following discussions with the Education and Health Directorates, the proposed fund will provide seed capital to support teachers and nurses, encouraging them to accept postings in remote areas within the constituency. The initiative is expected to enhance access to quality education and healthcare in underserved communities.

“I told them that by the middle of the year, we will set up this fund so that they will also be able to access some of the credit. That one is a seed fund given to the teachers and the health professionals,” Mr. Awuku stated.

He further assured constituents that his MP’s common fund would be used exclusively for developmental projects, emphasizing his dedication to improving the livelihoods of the people.

“As an MP, I have made a firm commitment that anything meant for the constituency as part of their common fund, I will not take a cedi for what is meant for them. I will also help them from the shackles of poverty to prosperity,” he emphasized.

The Akuapem North MP’s initiatives reflect his ongoing efforts to support economic growth and social welfare in the constituency, reinforcing his pledge to serve the people beyond electoral politics.
