In a bold move to combat the alarming levels of water pollution caused by illegal mining, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology, has initiated talks with Diotin Technologies, a global leader in advanced chemical solutions.
The engagement, led by Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, and Hon. Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, aims to explore a potential partnership as part of the government’s Blue Water Initiative. The initiative seeks to restore heavily polluted water bodies and ensure long-term environmental sustainability.
Oliver Edwards, Managing Director of Diotin UAE, presented the company’s cutting-edge chemical treatment solutions, which utilize advanced oxidation and biocide water treatment processes. These methods, he explained, have the capability to purify contaminated water within 90 days, making it safe for both human consumption and aquatic ecosystems.
“Our technology is designed to deliver comprehensive water purification, transforming polluted water sources into safe and sustainable resources,” Edwards stated.
If adopted, the partnership is expected to play a crucial role in reversing environmental degradation and safeguarding water resources for future generations. Hon. Buah expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for collaboration between government agencies, local communities, and key stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
“This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to protecting natural resources and securing a sustainable future,” Hon. Buah remarked.
The government’s engagement with Diotin Technologies signals a proactive step in addressing Ghana’s water pollution crisis, with hopes that this initiative will lead to tangible improvements in water quality across the country.
