The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Lawyer Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has directed the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to immediately shut down all cement manufacturing companies found producing substandard products.

In a decisive move to safeguard consumers, industry professionals, and property owners, the minister emphasized that only companies meeting the required quality standards will be allowed to continue operations.

“I have authorized the GSA to ensure that any company found guilty of defaulting with substandard products ceases production until they can consistently meet the required quality standards,” Hon. Ofosu-Adjare stated.

The directive follows the enforcement of the Cement Manufacturers Development Committee Regulation (L.I. 2480), which grants the minister the authority to withdraw the licenses of manufacturers failing to comply with national standards.

Furthermore, the Ghana Standards Authority Act, 2022 (Act 1,078) empowers the GSA to halt the sale, production, or distribution of any product that does not meet Ghanaian quality requirements.

The Ministry’s action signals a commitment to strengthening industrial regulation and ensuring that only high-quality construction materials are available on the Ghanaian market.

Industry stakeholders have been urged to adhere strictly to the set standards to avoid sanctions.

The Ghana Standards Authority is expected to provide periodic reports on compliance and enforcement measures in the cement manufacturing sector.
