An escalating rival tensions have claimed the life of one, leaving several properties belonging to civilians destroyed at Nsawam – Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.
According to multiple sources that gave firsthand information to Republic Online, two Ghetto Groups, differentiated as Ghetto One and Two had a misunderstanding on Monday, May 19. In the process, a member belonging to one of the groups lost his life which infuriated the other faction to take reprisal attacks.
Police in the area tried to maintain order but things escalated on Thursday, May 22, when the two groups went brazenly apart and set on fire properties belonging to individuals and residents of Nsawam, including vehicles, houses and stores.
A video intercepted by Republic Online showed a despicably deserted community with smokes and fire flames coming from the debris of the clash.
A statement issued and signed by the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, ASP Foster Owusu indicated that the Police had restored calm and brought the situation under control.
“The Eastern South Regional Police Command yesterday, 22nd May, 2025 restored calm at Adoagyiri following clashes between some youth groups of the town. The youth groups numbering about 300 blocked the road, burnt tyres and vandalized some shops and vehicles within the vicinity.
A re-enforcement team from the National Police Headquarters and the National Formed Police Unit were deployed to the location and successfully brought the situation under control.
Investigation so far indicates that on 20th May, 2025 there was a shooting incident at Adoagyiri which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to one other person. A reprisal attack following the incident resulted in injuries to three other people who were sent to the hospital for medical attention.
However, one of the victims, Isaah Masawudu died at the hospital. Following his death, the youth of Adoagyiri Zongo went on rampage leading to the disturbances.
Efforts are ongoing to get all those involved arrested to face the full rigors of the law”, parts of the statement said.
