Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a senior figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has praised President John Mahama as the most well-prepared leader Ghana has ever had.
Speaking in an interview, Otchere-Darko highlighted Mahama’s extensive political journey, which began at the local government level and culminated in the presidency.
He remarked, “Mahama is likely the most experienced president we’ve seen. He has risen from assemblyman to vice president and president, enduring opposition, learning from setbacks, and recognizing missed chances. Now, with another opportunity, he’s more ready than ever.”
Despite this praise, Otchere-Darko warned that Mahama faces intense pressure to fulfill his campaign pledges, particularly those aimed at young voters.
“The youth are demanding and expect tangible results like jobs from initiatives such as the 24-hour economy policy. In today’s age of social and new media, every government action is scrutinized and magnified, making this a daunting task.”
He also emphasized that the government’s role should be to foster an environment that enables opportunities rather than directly providing jobs. “The government should create the conditions for youth to chase their ambitions, but it’s also up to the young people to work hard to achieve their goals.”
