Three Police officers of the Saltpond Police Command in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region have allegedly brutalized two civilians during an arrest.

 

A report by Atinka News Agyei Kwaku Mensah reveals that two of these police officers who were in police uniform, accompanied by one community police personnel were spotted in a video beating the civilians in question.

 

Information available indicates that these civilians have for some weeks now had issues with their landlord for indulging in an illegal electricity connection upon owning ECG an amount in excess of GH¢10,000.

 

In view of this, these young men took matters into their hands to illegally connect power to enjoy electricity whenever they are in need of it. A decision which was vehemently opposed by their landlord.

 

But to their amusement, their landlord instead of reporting them to the police for engaging in illegal power connection, surprisingly accused them to the police of often smoking indian herb (wee) at his resident, a false allegation which called for their arrest and subsequent physical assault.

 

Some eyewitnesses to the incident revealed to be in the house when they saw two police officers, accompanied by a Community Police personnel walk into their premises, only to see them beating these tenants without any provocation, while the landlord stood and watch unconcerned.

 

They expressed shock over the occurrence and beseeched the Inspector General of Police to act accordingly on the matter for the said policemen to face their deserving punishment.

 

Meanwhile, one of the victims disclosed that they went to rent the room only for them to discover few days on that the apartment is disconnected from electricity for owing the power distribution company.

 

According to him, the landlord had been switching off the light in the day and turn it on in the evening, without their knowledge that the entire apartment was under illegal connection, only for the police to additionally raid their residence to physically assault them.

 

They, however, called on the IGP to launch a thorough investigation into the incident for the policemen in question to face the appropriate sanctions.

 

Victims after their brutality by these police officers for a suspected peddling of wee, have now been freed after no substantial evidence was obtained for the reason their resistance to arrest.
