The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, over allegations involving the unlawful possession of company vehicles.
The arrest was made after GIHOC Distilleries formally submitted a petition to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), alleging that vehicles belonging to the state-owned beverage company had been taken unlawfully by Mr. Jumah.
Addressing a press briefing in Accra, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, explained that the arrest followed due legal process.
“We received a petition from GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited indicating that some of their vehicles had been unlawfully taken by Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah,” DCOP Donkor told journalists.
“Upon reviewing the complaint, the CID initiated investigations and secured a warrant for his arrest. That warrant was executed, and Mr. Jumah is currently in our custody.”
According to DCOP Donkor, three of the missing vehicles have already been recovered by investigators as part of the ongoing probe.
She noted that the suspect is cooperating with police as inquiries continue.
“He is currently assisting us with our investigations at the CID headquarters,” she confirmed. “As of this afternoon, we have successfully retrieved three vehicles reported by the company as having been unlawfully taken.”
DCOP Donkor emphasized that the operation was part of the CID’s broader commitment to addressing corporate-related crimes and recovering assets believed to be misappropriated or stolen.
Further details regarding the circumstances of the vehicle recovery or any additional suspects involved have not been disclosed, as the investigation remains active.
