Nana Akua Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, has firmly dismissed the Electoral Commission’s directive to rerun elections at 19 polling stations in her constituency.
Speaking to Channel One new monitored by Kumasi Mail, she argued that nearly all results had been collated except those from just three polling stations and expressed bewilderment at the sudden decision for a rerun after the EC had sworn under oath in Parliament that only those three remained outstanding.
The NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate Akua Afriyie accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating the move, saying “We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete… EC… swore under oath that we have only three polling stations left… So if NDC is bent on taking the seat… then where are we? We are not agreeing to this.”
She emphasized her refusal to accept the EC’s rerun order, insisting the commission should proceed with declaring the winner and suggested that only collation of the remaining results, not a fresh vote, was needed.
Her stance echoes earlier remarks in February 2025, when she rejected any rerun and insisted that documented evidence (pink sheets and scanned copies) from the disputed stations was sufficient for finalizing the results.
Afriyie remains steadfast that rerun decision is unwarranted, and she will not accept it, urging the EC to complete collation and officially proclaim her as the MP for Ablekuma North.
